Nelly Ben Hayoun is a designer and creative director interested in how we can use design in our everyday lives to make them more thrilling, creative and passionate. Often science seems to be reserved for experts who alone have the privilege of experiencing the fringes of human knowledge.

Nelly’s work aims to combat this (real or perceived) aspect of science, by enlisting willing scientists in experiences that mix the creativity with technology, science with fiction, factual with artistic, amateur with expert.

Nelly will be talking about designing fictions, her ongoing love of science and experiences from recent project the International Space Orchestra. Her 45m talk will then be followed by a special preview screening of her new film International Space Orchestra.

International Space Orchestra tells the story of the incredible journey that Ben-Hayoun took with the employees of NASA Ames Research Center and the SETI Institute in California during 2012, in setting up the International Space Orchestra, and the production of the space opera they made together. The film contains interviews with scientists from NASA, as well as the final production of Ground Control: A Space Opera, it features musical contributions from Damon Albarn and Bobby Womack, and Penguin Café (Arthur Jeffes).
