ISO, a member, trumpet player BJ Navarro, Assistant Chief, Flight Systems Implementation Branch at NASA Ames Research Center, was able to arrange to put the ISO music in space. Literally.
On Tuesday, May 5th, BJ received amazing pictures from ESA Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti who brought the ISO music Compact Disc to ISS. The pictures show the ISO CD orbiting the earth on board the ISS, experiencing ZERO G inside the Cupola. read more

ISO is in orbit

Two Ardusat (Arduino based Nanosatellites run by Nanosatisfi) Carrying ISO’s Ground-Control: An Opera in Space Recordings Launched Into Space on 4th August 2013. On 19th November 2013, these Ardusats got released from the International Space Station by the six-member Expedition 38 crew. The orbiting residents worked with mission controllers around the world on deploying the Ardusats from Kibo’s airlock Tuesday 19th at 7:10 a.m. EST. The Japanese robotic arm grappled and unberthed a deployer mechanism containing the Ardusats from Kibo’s airlock. read more

ISO recording at Skywalker sound

In the September 2012, ISO recorded their first album at Skywalker sound studio. This recording later in May 2015 made it to the International Space Station.Skywalker Sound is the sound effects, sound editing, sound design, sound mixing and music recording division of George Lucas’ Lucas Digital motion picture group. Its main facilities are located at Skywalker Ranch in Lucas Valley, near Nicasio, California. read more

ISO public performance ZERO1 Biennial

Conducted by Arthur Jeffes of Penguin Café, the ISO will have a public performance in San José as part of the ZERO 1 Biennial. Established in 2006, the ZERO1 Biennial is North America’s most significant showcase of work at the nexus of art and technology. Organized by the San Jose-based art non-profit ZERO1  and taking place at locations throughout Silicon Valley and the greater Bay Area, curated exhibitions, public art installations, performances, and speaker events presents work by a global community of innovative artists who are reshaping contemporary culture. read more

In the September 2012, The ISO performed a Bravest Man In the Universe, a song by Bobby Womack and Damon Albarn in front of the world largest windtunnel. This song was also recorded at Skywalker Ranch and sent in the International Space Station in 2015.read more

ISO+Penguin Café

In the September 2012, ISO performed two songs specially composed for the ISO by Penguin Café “Aurora” and “Wow”. This later piece is based on the Wow! Signal, received by the Big Ear radio telescope on August 15th, 1977. The frequency of the Wow! Signal matches very closely with the hydrogen line, which is at 1420.40575177 MHz. Damon Albarn wrote the song The Bravest Man of the Universe with Bobby Womack and Richard Russell. The ISO performed it in the summer 2012 in front of the world largest windtunnel at NASA Ames Research Center, CA, USA. The song was then sent to the International Space Station in the summer 2015. read more

ISO+Maywa Denki

In the September 2012, the ISO performed Kimi Wa Epuron, a japanese composition written by Maywa Denki for the ISO. This collaboration took place over the summer 2012 in NASA Ames Research Center. Spinning off their father’s old vacuum tube-manufacturing company, in 1993, brothers Masamichi and Novmichi Tosa established a performance arts collective called Maywa Denki. The company is well known for its ‘nonsense machines’ that involve the public in the creation process. read more
