Arthur Jeffes is a talented composer and the front man of Penguin Café. They are a group whose quintessentially English sound is influenced by folk, bluegrass, avant garde classical music and pop. Arthur is the son of the founder of the much-loved Penguin Cafe Orchestra, classically trained British guitarist, composer and arranger Simon Jeffes.  The Penguin’s sound is not easily categorized, but has elements of exuberant folk music and a minimalist aesthetic occasionally reminiscent of composers such as Philip Glass. The Penguin Cafe Orchestra recorded and performed for 24 years until Jeffes died of a brain tumour in 1997. In 2009 Arthur Jeffes, founded Penguin Cafe, a new group who continue to perform his father’s work, as well as Arthur Jeffe’s original compositions. Arthur and Penguin Café are headlining at this years 2012 Olympics in London. Arthur has composed an original work for the Olympics that charts the shape of the River Thames across a musical stave.
