Violinist and composer, Evan Price, is one of the world’s most confident voices in extra-classical string playing. Some of the artists who have performed Price’s music include The Hot Club of San Francisco, Turtle Island Quartet, Quartet San Francisco, Providence String Quartet, Ying Quartet, The Grant Park Symphony, Orchestra Nashville, The San Francisco Girls’ Chorus, and the New Century Chamber Orchestra. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Price pursued violin and music theory studies at The Cleveland Institute of Music, and then jazz violin at the Berklee College of Music. Since 1988, Price has played with The Hot Club of San Francisco, the nation’s most venerable gypsy jazz ensemble. In addition to his work with the Hot Club, Price is an occasional member of San Francisco’s Teatro ZinZanni Orchestra and also enjoys playing periodically with the New Century Chamber Orchestra and the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra. Price also devotes much of his time to teaching, both privately and in the classroom. He has taught fiddling and jazz at both Wellesley College and at the Jazz school Institute, a Baccalaureate program at the Jazzschool in downtown Berkeley. He is the recipient of two GRAMMY® awards.
