Shea A.J. Comfort first discovered the Armenian duduk while he was a university student in Paris, France.  His ensuing search for duduk recordings led him to Djivani, the first Armenian traditional music ensemble in France. He studied and eventually played with them during the next four years until he completed his degree and returned to the United States.  Shea has been fortunate to study with Djivan Gasparian, Ararat Petrossian, Albert Vartanian and Philippe Chabazian.  Past musical collaborations have included film/tv soundtracks, guest CD appearances, and various live performances. In addition to Armenian traditional music, Shea has a strong Balkan music background with a focus on Greek and Rom style clarinet.  He has played in past Bay Area Balkan dance bands Anoush Ellas and Turlu, and currently plays with Balkalicious Fire Drive (bfdmusic.com). Shea lives, works and teaches in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Shea’s grandad worked for NASA on on developing guidance systems for Mercury, Gemini & Apollo.
